The new year just dawned and it already looks like it will be a period of major change in terms of IT functionality. A recent article from InformationWeek explained that the green IT landscape is changing quickly, creating an environment in which advanced technologies and IT capabilities are becoming a priority.
Within the broad green IT sphere, data center infrastructure management tools will become a priority. The news source explained that rising energy concerns in the data center are making sustainability advances a priority, leading to innovation in management systems.
Simon Mingay, research vice president at Gartner, told InformationWeek that infrastructure management solutions could contribute substantially to green IT goals in 2013.
"I think we'll also see more use of data center infrastructure management tools - helping organizations to do better capacity management and energy management," Mingay told the news source.
Cabling becomes particularly important as such solutions gain relevance in the data center. Improving facility management is often made possible by solutions that give IT managers control over the facility. Cabling connects various components of a building to the network, giving IT the ability to make more strategic management decisions.
